Sometimes my disappointments sting
and I need strength,
That's why I sing.

I sing so I can see a smile
where one's not been for quite a while.
I sing to lift a leaden heart.
I sing so we won't feel apart.

Sometimes I feel so buoyed with joy.
I can't sit still just like a boy.
I play guitar, I strum each string,
and I feel good.
That's why I sing.

I sing to free a melody
that's been pent up inside of me.
Life feels more real when the notes ring.
And I feel bet- ter than a king.

I need a view that's new and wide.
I need to make my thoughts take wing,
